Binaural beats are the result of a brainwave technology that is designed to place your brain in the same state of activity as if you were meditating using some of the traditional methods. In order to meditate in the traditional sense it takes a great deal of concentration of a considerable period of time, and often times you are interrupted by outside influences.
The way that binaural beats works are by an audio stimulus where two tones are produced in low-frequency pulsations with two tones is produced at slight frequencies, each presented to opposite ears through headphones.
A beating tone will then be experienced as if the tones are coming from the brain, although they must be below 1,000 hertz for a noticeable beating sound to be produced.
Binaural beats are frequently used for relaxation purposes, the release of tension, and for sleep therapy. For people who have insomnia, the binaural beats therapy has been found to be very effective, as, before the use of the beats, the subject would be very restless and would have great difficulty getting to sleep. However, when the binaural beats system is used, the subjects are relaxed very quickly and sleep comes just as easily.
The process of using a binaural beats technology goes way back to the early 1800s when the research was done to identify how various sounds affected a person’s reactions. It was found that these sorts of sounds did affect the behavior of people. In summary, the focus of the results was that when the beats were syncopated in certain ways, the people were able to relax more, and seemed to experience less in the way of overall stress.
There have also been other effects of using different tonal episodes of binaural beats such as the stimulation of various glands to produce levels of hormones, such as the production of dopamine in Parkinson’s patients, and for the treatment of addictions.
It has been found that different frequencies of beats produce different results such as gamma wave production produces higher mental activity and even fear in some cases, beta waves can produce anxious thinking and even paranoia, alpha waves produce relaxation and sleep help, theta waves produces deep relaxation, and delta waves produces deep dreamless sleep.
Consequently, it is imperative that people don’t just go off and start listening to any old binaural beats, as they might get a result that they had not expected. You certainly would not want a result of a person experiencing paranoia or fear, for example.
The process of Binaural beats is called brain entraining, and different people require different brain entraining for the process to be the most effective for them. It is best if one starts out with the beats with an entraining frequency that is the closest to their normal frequency, to begin with.
If the beats are kept withing certain confines and are not varied too much from a person’s normal brain wave patterns, it seems that there will be little or no side effects. Most people have a normal brain wave pattern that is withing the alpha range, so lowering the alpha state is sufficient to put them into a more relaxed state, in order to drift off to sleep as an example.
It is when there is an abrupt or sharp departure from the individual’s normal pattern where some alarming results can occur. This is why it is important that these stimuli with Binaural beats be somewhat supervised, or at least obtained in mostly an alpha format. It would not hurt at all to have a professional determine what level of binaural beats would fit you the best before you go all in as far as using them.
